On 27 Feb 2004, the Belgian offical journal (Moniteur Belge) contained an invitation to interested parties to apply for frequency licences to run wireless local access networks in the frequency band 3450-3500 MHz / 3550-3600 MHz.
Such frequencies can be used to deploy systems based upon the IEEE 802.16 standard (e.g. emerging WiMAX equipment).
The official deadline for applications is 31 March 2004.
The same day, the Belgian Institute for Postal services and Telecommunications (BIPT) published a more detailed notice which refers to the modified Royal Decree of 22 June 1998, and specifically the modification of 27 June 2000 (which addressed wireless local access), and the BIPT Circular Letter of 15 Jan 2004 (which abolished the licensing requirement and replaced it by a notification / registration system).
The BIPT notice contains two detailed tables, to be completed by prospective applicants, covering the exact location of base stations, the requested frequency capacity for years 1, 2 and 3, and various technical details.
